Home Modifications for Independence is a private practice division of RBACC designed to address and resolve problems encountered in the home. Our therapists have worked with caregivers and their loved ones in the home and community for nearly two decades with the following goals:
  • make the home safer,
  • help ease the burden of caregiving,
  • assist the individuals who are cared for to learn how to use adaptive equipment, resources and/or home modifications.
The practitioners at Home Modifications for Independence are experts in knowing the most recent, state-of-the-art equipment available – and what works best for your loved one. Services and recommendations will be tailored to each individual’s situation. The practitioners are also knowledgeable about potential funding assistance and agency or social service resources that the individual or family may be eligible for.

Studies indicate that that the majority of homes are not designed to meet the needs of Americans over age 65.

The Centers for Disease Control suggests that home modifications and repairs can reduce in-home injuries, particularly falls, by 30 to 50 percent.

Do you know someone who:
  • Is having difficulty walking around safely in their own home?
  • Is unable to get up or down from their bed, couch or other furniture?
  • Has stopped taking a bath because they can’t get in or out of the tub safely?
  • Has stopped social and recreational activities because it has become difficult to get out of the home or in/out of the car?
  • Is having difficulty managing daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or preparing a meal?
It is important that the individual be able to continue to perform daily routines and self-care.

Our occupational therapists can also identify possible sources of funding assistance for home modifications and related equipment through qualified services. This assistance may come from local agencies on aging, Medicare and Medicaid, and other state and federal sources. Our practitioners will provide information on the services specific to your situation and needs.

Did you know...
  • That there may be government funding to cover all or part of the cost of home modifications based on the family or individual’s specific qualifications.
  • That there may be funding for equipment and services to implement the modifications and caregiver support for long-term sustainable care giving.
  • That our occupational therapists can assess and recommend products and devices such as a walker basket, tub bench, elevated legs for furniture and other assistive equipment to help your loved one remain independent in the home. Equipment recommendations will be specific to each family and individual situation with attention to the caregiver’s needs.
